Top 10 Busts of the 2009 NFL Draft

2009 Draft Busts1 560x391With the NFL combine starting Thursday, we felt it was appropriate to look back at the top 10 busts of the 2009 draft. You never want to jump the gun on calling somebody a bust, but by the effort shown by some of these guys last season it’s hard to believe they’ll get a chance to prove us wrong.

10

Brandon Myers – TE – Iowa
Drafted 202nd overall by the Oakland Raiders
Brandon Myers1

durr...

2009 Stats: 4 receptions, 19 yards, 0 TDs

4 catches for 19 yards? Who does this guy think he is? Darrius Heyward-Bey?

9

Fui Vakapuna – RB – BYU
Drafted 215th overall by the Cincinnati Bengals
Fui Vakapuna1 300x150

worst Towelie impression EVER

2009 Stats: 0 carries, 0 receptions, 0 total yards

Fui had as successful a 2009 as I did! I could totally be in the NFL!

8

Curtis Taylor – Safety – LSU
Drafted 219th overall by the San Francisco 49ers
Curtis Taylor1 300x300

Can I get the origin of the word? No? Poop.

2009 stats: 7 games played, 4 combined tackles, 3 solo tackles, 0 passed defended, 0 interceptions, 0 forced fumbles.

The next Ronnie Lott? I wouldn’t trust him to cover the parking lot.

7

Zack Follett – LB – Cal
Drafted 235th overall by the Detroit Lions
Zach Follett1

Zack struggles for the right to be the big spoon

2009 stats: Appeared in 12 games, 10 combined tackles of which 4 were assisted, 0 sacks, 0 interceptions, 0 passes defended.

You get drafted by the Lions and you can’t make more than 10 tackles? Your defense is ALWAYS on the field. Waste of a draft pick. Detroit, this is why you perennially suck.

6

Marko Mitchell – WR – Nevada
Drafted 243rd overall by the Washington Redskins
Marko Mitchell1 300x224

Wow, Pokie got old!

2009 stats: Appeared in 10 games, 4 receptions, 32 yards, 0 touchdowns

The vaunted Redskins offense got a real game changer with Marko. Nice pick guys. Lofty pick.

5

E.J. Biggers – CB – Western Michigan
Drafted 217 overall by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers
EJ Biggers1 300x182

You lied, Google Image search! That cannot be EJ Biggers! Or can it be?

2009 stats: 0 games playes, 0 tackles, 0 passes defended, 0 interceptions, 0 forced fumbles, 0 slaps on the hind end.

Tampa got this pick from Jacksonville in a trade. Great move guys, this schmuck really solidified your secondary.

4

Stoney Woodson – CB – South Carolina
Drafted 238th overall by the New York Giants
StoneyHenge1 300x183

StoneyHenge. No? I quit.

2009 stats: no stats

As shaky as the Giants defensive backfield was last season and Stoney couldn’t even crack the roster?  What a waste.

3

Darryl Richard – DT – Georgia Tech
Drafted 234th overall by the New England Patriots
Darryl Richard1 300x261

I spent too much time on StoneyHenge to be clever on this one.

2009 stats: no stats

Darryl would have rated higher on the list, but his number on NFL.com is listed as #69 and that makes me laugh.  I’m 12 years old.

2

A. Q. Shipley – C – Penn State
Drafted 226th overall by the Pittsburgh Steelers
AQ Shipley1 300x196

HEY YOU GUYS!

2009 stats: no stats

A.Q.? Is that a name or the worst final two letters in scrabble history? Can it be both?

1

Blake Schlueter – C – TCU
Drafted 225th overall by the Denver Broncos
Blake Schlueter1 235x300

Missed a spot...on the roster

2009 stats: no stats

Can you say REACH? 31 people drafted after this guy and he doesn’t even make the team! I haven’t seen this big a bust since the last time I saw Andre Smith’s combine picture.
