Derby Day Fun with Crown Royal
Our friends at Crown Royal have presented us with some amazing sports opportunities in the past, including an unbelievable NASCAR experience, and our first Rodeo. So when they presented the chance to win a trip to the Preakness, this Maryland based site was intrigued by the prospects. Of course, we’ll have to win the Kentucky Derby first, which is a difficult task.
They’ve randomly assigned two horses for us to root for, as we compete against other fabulous sites in this year’s Run for the Roses. Having never bet on the Kentucky Derby, we can honestly say this is the first time we’ve really cared about the outcome of the race. Sure we watch it every year, like every major sporting event, but it’s great to have a little skin in the game.
These are the two horses you should join us in rooting for on Saturday:
Post Position: 9
Jockey: Rafael Bejarano
Trainer: Todd Pletcher
Owner: Repole Stable
Earnings Per Start: $136,626
Post Position: 6
Jockey: Rosie Napravnik
Trainer: Tom Amoss
Owner: Gold Mark Farm, LLC – Whisper Hill Farm
Earnings Per Start: $46,411
So we don’t have one of the favorites, but a couple of horses who have an outside shot of making an impact. We’ll be cheering them on via Twitter, and you can follow all of the action (with 9 other sites doing the same) on the hashtag : #ReignOn.
While we’re enjoying the race, we’ll also be enjoying a classic Crown Royal cocktail, a shot to be exact. We plan on knocking one of these back come post time, so win or lose we’ll be having a good time :
- 1 oz. – Crown Royal Maple Finished
- 0.75 oz. – Orange Juice
- 0.25 oz. – Simple Syrup
- Combine all ingredients with ice into a cocktail shaker.
- Shake and strain into a shot glass.
But this isn’t the only thing Crown Royal has going on for the Triple Crown :
Crown Royal in partnership with Laffit Pincay, Jr., the winningest jockey of all time, will donate $1 million to Thoroughbred Charities of America if Pincay can predict the top-three finishers (in order) to each leg of the Triple Crown.
We’d be impressed if he could predict just the three winners, but 3 for 3 on trifectas is going to be pretty tough. Good luck to Laffit who also recently endured 3 ridiculous questions from Jimmy Kimmel :
** UPDATE **
Laffit Pincay, Jr. has made his selections for the Derby, and unfortunately he doesn’t think our horses have what it takes. He’s predicting :
- 1st Goldencents
- 2nd Normandy Invasion
- 3rd Orb
So now do we hope he’s wrong so we can win, or hope he’s right for charity? Such the dilemma.
